So I bounced over to Technorati, still trying to get my blog to show up under the name “Houblog” instead of “Choices Ahoy!” Looking at the listings, I see that I am now credited with two new links… from Germany. In German. WTF? I’m fairly sure I’m not internationally famous, but, hey, with the internet, you never know. So I followed the link back and found out that… well, it’s not really a link. Nor is it to me. The babelfish translation follows:

Um. Hey, are you trying to be insulting or something? Synonym for dummy? And who is this Alexander Houben? And I’m fairly neutral about subdomains….
Apparently, Mr. Houben is a herpetologist. No, get your mind out of the gutter; it means he studies snakes.
I’m a herpe-what??? To be fairly honest, I don’t reallly like snakes, unless with a sweet ‘n’ sour sauce. And the babelfish translation really sucks …
No, I’m just an ordinary blogger and I found your blog the same way, via Technorati. I found it interesting to see that the title Houblog was already out there, although in a totally different way. My blog is pronounced Houb-log, as opposed to your Hou-Blog. And being a newbie blogger I immediately wrote about that fact and put a link to your blog. Yep, I guess thats what internet communication is all about.
And by no means am I insulting anybody.
But I indeed do not like subdomains. Must be something from my childhodd 😉
But I do like Texas.
ha! Thanks Alex. The herpetologist bit is the best I could make out of googling your name — I got some journal article that involved finding snakes during field work. It was in English, but I assumed a professional translation. Possibly another Houben? It appears I may have conflated two different hits. I didn’t look any further into it because the translation was so bad, I thought the link was actually some kind of error. I did see Texas mentioned, so I wasn’t sure.
Like most Americans, I’m mono-lingual, and I got too many German-language hits to make heads or tails of which one was your blog, or follow the references. Thanks to the Technorati linkback, I figured it out and will add a link back to your site. Good luck with your blogging! I hope to get my site to look that good once I get through dealing with the old PN entries.
