Is Someone Trying To Be Funny?

Spotted on the City of Houston’s Planning and Development Department intranet:

Ninety-eight percent of the adults in this country are decent, hard-working, honest Americans. It’s the other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But then–we elected them.
— Lily Tomlin

Of all the places for that to appear, about the only funnier one could have been the website for the Housing and Community Development Department. I’d say the Mayor Pro Tem’s, but there isn’t one.

Wish I could help! I suppose I should have taken a snapshot and posted it, but I don’t have software to convert the .bmp here (I think…)

As for SAP, I’m glad it turned out I don’t have to mess with it.

    09/21:

Due to System installations and maintenance, the SAP system will be unavailable starting at 8:00 pm tonight. The system is scheduled to be up by 7:00 am in the morning.

Thanks for your patience and support.

But if you get any wind of employees having problems this one’s FAR more explanatory, I think.

The City of Houston’s first month end close in our new SAP financial system will take place on today, Friday, August 11, 2006.

Beginning Monday, August 14, 2006 you may begin retrieving your first completed Period 1 financial reports (July 2006) from our new financial system. These reports as in the past can be utilized to review your year-to-date expenditures in comparison to your budget while projecting your year-end expenses.

There are several reports in our new financial system that is [sic] similar to our old legacy system reports such as the:

    · B050 – Budget vs. Actual By Agency Within Fund with Year-to-Date
    Comparison)

    · B031 – Budget vs Actual at Expense Budget Level for Expense Budget
    Organization)

    · B100 – Expense/Expenditure Detail By Coding Level Organization

    · A203 – Detail Listing of Revenues vs Budget

    · R001 – Revenue Detail

These reports can be retrieved in SAP by utilizing the SAP transaction code Y_DRA_36000001. You may enter this transaction code on the SAP Easy Access screen. To assist in the retrieval of these reports, I have attached screen shots of the Budget vs Actual selection menu for your convenience. You may input this information based on your business area. I have used the Finance and Administration Department’s business area as an example on the screen shots: A6500.

The COH1 in the commitment item portion of the screen will retrieve both revenues and expenditures on one report. To view revenues only replace the COH1 with a 4 or to view expenditures only replace the COH1 with a 5.

As we transition to our newly implemented financial system, feel free to contact me directly at (713) xxx-xxxx or the ERP Business Support Team at (713) xxx-xxxx for further assistance.

Uhhhhhhh. Whatever, dude. Easy Access screen my ass. How much training and time lost is going to be necessary to get employees up to speed on this crap? The guy who quipped “SAP is Germany’s revenge for Dresden” was on target…
