I decided to hang out over at the Houston Bozonicle website and check a few of the articles out. I didn’t need those brain cells, and I was feeling a bit snarky anyway. So, snarking away…
Grandma and a waste of taxpayer money: Bottom line: this is just another way to transfer our tax money into developers’ pockets. How about we just stop allowing construction in such areas, or require the homes to be built well above grade? That would be much more sensible.
Leave it to the professionals, please: Disturbing story about what happened amid the confusion and chaos of an apartment fire. First the tenants tried the “help” the gate open faster — which caused it to become jammed shut. (Hello… security systems?) Then when they didn’t think the firemen were moving fast enough, they started yanking tools off the fire truck themselves. Have to wonder if they all were accounted for afterwards. One other thing that bothers me: why was the special camera left on the truck? The department says it’s because of the necessity of detailing a crew to it and necessary set-up time. In other words, it sounds like my suspicions were correct: it’s a gee-whiz techno toy that is useless in the real world.

Don’t these people know they could just drive up to Kelley and Lockwood? Who needs Mexico?
Houston Texans supports an NFL draft lottery. Anyone remember why the NBA has one? Two names: Ralph Sampson and Akeem Olajuwan. We had the first, and then tanked deliberately to grab the second. Now the Texans are repeating history, planning to lose on Sunday.
Yet another reason to stop smoking (and why I have no problem with the bottle-rocket ban). I’m seeing too damn many charred spots alongside the freeway already. You idiots know who you are. Fuck you and your littering asses.
Freedom never was free. I don’t have a problem with an entrance fee, I just have a problem with what might happen to it. Remember a few years ago when the City Zoo started charging? It was just a “nominal fee” of $2. It’s now nominally $7.00, and the Brown administration gave a private corporation a fifty-year sweetheart deal to run it. How sweet? All the water they want, for free. In short, the city’s ratepayers are paying a hidden tax to support the zoo.
Would someone explain to these “outraged people” that we’re at war? Considering the prior post, I don’t think they’ve got a leg to stand on. Chicken Little has been squawking so long that no one would notice if Bush sent the stormtroopers down main street tomorrow. . .
My kind of guy. I bet he’s a whiz at Sim City. I know I still complain about the game not being realistic enough. . . . Ok, you added the water system, now where’s the sewers? Why do I never have to worry about racial politics and redistricting? The feds never come in and tell me how to do my job . . . . Forget the UFO’s, where’s the race riots during the 1960’s?
It’s a goddamn library you idiots, not a homeless shelter! I suddenly like Dallas a whole lot less. Especially since the new rules prohibit sex in the library. Now that’s just going too far.
Until next time….
Geez, flooded 23 times in 28 years? What kind of idiot stays after, say, the TENTH flood?
Of course, up here in the Dallas area it’s grass fires currently. You know, floodplains flood, and praries occasionally burn. There is no vast suprise here. Nothing new. But it always seems to shock people.
Of course, in the end they always get taxpayer bailouts and rebuild… I wonder if that isn’t about to come to an end, though? The density in such areas (and the property values in such) have shot up so much, the commonplace is becoming disasterous.
